Noise Complaints Soar Due to New Flight Paths

Homeowners across the country are facing new noise problems due to The Federal Aviation Administration’s revised flight paths under an air traffic control modernization plan known as “NextGen.”

Homes that were previously not affected by airplane noise are now directly under flight paths with planes taking off every couple of minutes throughout the day. With proper soundproofing, you can diminish these noise disturbances without major construction or breaking the bank.

Here’s how!

Install Soundproof Curtains

Soundproof curtains block noise from entering the room without having to deal with the mess and money of installing double-pane windows. Our AcousticCurtain™ has an STC value of 29, meaning it’s equal to adding another wall between you and airplane noise-with no construction!

Seal Sound Leaks

Sound can seep into your home through even the smallest cracks, so be sure to check for any gaps (especially around doors and windows) and seal them with a sound blocking caulk.

This is especially problematic with windows and doors that are drafty, allowing air, and thus sound, to pass through into the space. Double-hung windows often allow more flanking than single-hung windows. Similarly, windows that show any air or light leaks will often allow significant noise transfer.

Sound Masking

If you’re finding it impossible to sleep with the sound of planes flying overhead, you may want to consider sound masking. Consistent low-volume noise can cover up other unwanted sounds, such as that annoying airplane engine! Fans, white-noise machines, air conditioners, or a white-noise playlist could do the trick when you’re trying to get some shut eye.

Add Acoustical Wallpaper or Mass Loaded Vinyl

What if you could reduce noise in your home by up to 75% with no construction and minimal cost? With OverWall Noise Blokker, you can! This product is installed over already existing drywall, can be painted over to match any room, and can be installed by the everyday DIY’er. It’s the perfect way to add an extra layer of soundproofing between you and those roaring airplanes.

These new flight plans shouldn’t disturb the comfort of your home. With these tips, you can effectively and efficiently block disruptive noise.
