Tips for Combating Noise Pollution

Noise pollution is any excessive noise or unpleasant sound that disturbs the natural balance of life, weather it be temporary or constant. While we don’t typically think of noise as a pollution, sound that disrupts daily activities or quality of life is definitely a serious pollutant. Check out these tips for combating noise pollution so you can enjoy some peace and quiet.

Noise barriers

Creating barriers around your living space can actually fragment sound waves and prevent excess noise pollution from entering your home. Natural barriers like plants and shrubs are one option, or a man-made option such as building a fence or screen around your home could also help with noise problems such as loud neighbors. Exterior noise barriers can be hung on fences or metal wire to eliminate direct line-of-sight sound propagation.

Soundproof curtains

Our AcousticCurtain™ is a soundproof curtain that can be easily hung and customized to fit over any sized window. It deflects sound waves from entering the room and seals around the window to prevent excess noise pollution from seeping in.

White noise machines

White noise machines produce low volume, constant background noise that can drown out annoying noise pollution. They are best used for helping people sleep in environments with sound distractions, such as airplanes flying over the home or street noise.

For more commercial applications, sound masking systems are installed in offices and other areas that require additional speech privacy.

Noise cancelling headphones

Noise cancelling headphones use active noise control to reduce unwanted outside noise. There are numerous brands at various price points, making this a great option for anyone who needs a temporary break from noise pollution so they can focus on work or that new episode of their favorite TV show.
