Description
Acoustic Felt Underlayment for Laminate Floors
Floor Blokker Lite is an acoustic felt underlayment made for floating laminate floors. It is a dense pad of resilient polyester fibers that cushions every footstep before it reaches the subfloor, so less impact noise travels into the room below. On top is a multi-layer polyester film that works like a vapor barrier, keeping subfloor moisture away from the finished floor.
At 0.10 in thick it adds almost nothing to floor height, so doors, transitions and trim still line up. It is made from post-industrial recycled polyester, contains no plasticizers, and is 100% recyclable at the end of its life.
Felt Underlayment for Engineered Hardwood
The same pad goes under floating engineered hardwood. Hardwood and laminate are hard, thin surfaces that drum and click underfoot, and a felt layer between the floor and the subfloor softens that sound for the people walking on it as well as the people below.
Laminate and engineered hardwood only Floor Blokker Lite is not rated for LVT, vinyl plank or ceramic tile. For those floors, use acoustic rubber underlayment, or Floor Blokker when you also need to block voices and TV.
Floor Blokker Lite vs Floor Blokker
Both cut footstep noise almost equally. The difference is mass: Floor Blokker adds a heavy vinyl layer that also blocks voices and TV, and goes under tile and LVT. Lite is the thinner, lower-cost pad for floating laminate and engineered hardwood.

Floor Blokker Lite Specs & IIC Rating
Delta IIC is how many points the underlayment adds to a floor’s impact rating over the same floor without it. Building codes for multi-family housing typically require IIC 50 for the full floor-ceiling assembly.
How to Install Felt Underlayment Under a Floating Floor
- Seal the walls first. Run acoustical caulk along the base of shared walls before the underlayment goes down.
- Start in a corner. Unroll it flush with the wall, film side up, and cut to length with a straight edge and a utility knife.
- Butt the edges tight. Lay the next roll edge to edge with no overlap and no gap wider than 1/16 in.
- Tape the seams over concrete. Tape every seam with seam tape to keep the vapor barrier continuous. On a wood subfloor, taping is optional.
- Float the floor. Lay the laminate or engineered hardwood directly on top. To fix the pad down first, use a pressure-sensitive adhesive, never a water-based one.
The Floor Blokker Lite data sheet (PDF) lists the approved adhesives. One installer can lay about 2,000 sq ft a day.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is felt underlayment?
- A dense pad of compressed fibers that goes between the subfloor and a floating floor. It cushions footsteps and cuts the hollow sound of laminate. Floor Blokker Lite is made from recycled polyester fibers with a vapor barrier film on top.
- Is felt underlayment better than foam?
- For sound, usually yes. Felt is denser, so it absorbs more impact and resists flattening over time. Floor Blokker Lite is lab tested at Delta IIC 25, a rating most foam pads never publish.
- Can I use it under LVT or tile?
- No. It is made for laminate and engineered hardwood only. Use rubber underlayment under LVT or tile, or Floor Blokker when you also need to block airborne noise.
- Do I need a separate vapor barrier over concrete?
- No. The polyester film works like a vapor barrier. Over concrete, tape the seams so it stays continuous.
- How many rolls do I need?
- Each roll covers about 100 sq ft. Measure the room, divide by 100 and add about 10% for cuts. A 12 x 15 ft room is 180 sq ft, so order two rolls.
